Gonzalez makes a diving grab at the one to set up a the first score igniting the crowd and frustrating a Dolphin defense that had stuffed the running game.  He's Tony Gonzalez, we expected this.  Ovie Mughelli then catches a touchdown pass.  OK, maybe we didn't expect that.
Ryan seems off in the early going, then Mike Mularkey rolls him away from the pressure a couple times, he seems to find some rhythm and is solid after the first quarter.  We expected this from the 2008 Rookie of the Year. Special teams punt and kick coverage was incredible.
But after all Keith Armstrong's unit was fantastic last year, so we expected this.  Jason Elam looks very erratic and misses two normally within his comfort zone.  We didn't expect that.  The defense looks very athletic, great pursuit yet Ronnie Brown, Ricky Williams, Pat White didn't seem to find anything when they tried to cut back and Dan Henning had to reach way into his bag of tricks trying to create something.
OK, we didn't expect this, the defensive transition can't be judged on one game but Miami is a solid offensive unit.  True, they don't have premeir receivers, but O line is good and Pennington is savvy and the backs are really good.  The point is we expect more this year, but there will always be bumps in the road.  The good, solid franchises/teams overcome them, brush them off as things with which they must deal and overcome to win.  The expectation level is raised now, so let's enjoy it.

Marietta's Melanie Oudin threw a shock into the 2009 US Open today beating the 4th seed Elena Dementieva in three sets.. Just playing on the Arthur Ashe Stadium was a dream come true for the 17 year old phenom, beating the player that many felt could beat Serena Williams is something else all together.. She has a leg injury that wasn;t completely healed before the tournament began.. It could be a problem that limits just how far she will go, THIS TIME. But today the girl from Marietta served notice that her time is not in the future, but right now..We should be proud that she represents out community and the USA so well... Look out Maria Sharapova, You're next !!!
